Whether it's sports or running around everywhere doing errands there will come a time where you will need to grab a snack to go for you or your kiddo. There is a lot of snack options out there and not all of them healthy. Since I've been there, I decided to compile a list based on some suggestions given in a Women's Health Magazine article. They went through the trouble of finding 125 of the best packaged foods that double as quick healthy snacks and they took into account cost, availability and taste.
All labels have been checked for nutritional benefits so rest assured that the amount of vitamins, sugar, and salt in each item have been considered before they made it on the list. Here are just a few that I liked the most.
The rule of thumb to look for with cereal is more that 5 grams of fiber and less than 10 grams of sugar. Plus steer away from ingredients like high fructose corn syrup and BHT. With that some of their choices are:
Natures Path Organic Love Crunch
I actually love this Cereal/granola and was really excited to see it on this list. My sister actually picked it up in Aldi's and I have eaten it ever since. Since I have to watch my sugar intake this cereal is perfect for me as it has a low amount of sugar and tastes great (it's got the perfect amount of sweetness and is great for a chocolate fix if you need it. I have not eaten it yet as a cereal (I may now) but I love to use it to create a parfait. It adds a great crunch to yogurt. Now, it does not have that much fiber but it has no crap ingredients or dyes in it. Bonus!
Bolts Red Mill Steel Cut Oats
A big benefit here is that these cook in half the time compared to other types of oatmeal and they are better for you.
Bear Naked Fit Almond Crisp
One cup gives you 230 calories, 7 grams of Fiber, 7 grams of protein and under 10 grams of sugar. An added bonus, this cereal comes with other great ingredients like coconut and chia seeds. One thing I will say, pay attention to your serving size here. The 10 grams of sugar is for 1/4 of a cup. That's not a whole lot to get full on this cereal.
Snacks, Crackers and Chips
Sometimes you just need that crunch. I, for one, am guilty of this when I am trying to brainstorm an idea I have. Now, the rule of thumb when it comes to snacks is stick to 100 to 200 calories and stay away from bad ingredients like hydrogenated oils. So with that said, here are some healthy snack ideas from their list.
Boom, Chicka Pop (Popcorn) Did you know that popcorn is actually a whole grain? A little bit embarrassed to admit it, but I did not know that. Most of the time what gets popcorn a bad wrap is the stuff that people put on top of it. But popcorn is actually really good for you. Now, this product tastes good and is good for you, 100 calories for 2 and a half cups. That's a lot of popcorn.
Everybody's Nuts Pistachios
You may have heard the recent study that recommended adding more fish and nuts to your diet to help your heart get healthier. Well, were as you might want to look more toward walnuts for those benefits, pistachios and other nuts aren't bad healthy snack ideas to add to your diets. I love Everybody's Nuts as a snack because the flavors they add are awesome for that little something of flavor we all need. I had the garlic version on a road trip of mine a few years ago but you can also get them in flavors like sweet chili. An added benefit is that pistachios are also known to boost your metabolism. Woot, woot!
Food Should Taste Good Barbecue Sweet Potato Chips I really like the name of this company. I agree completely with them. The bonus of these chips is that sweet potatoes are really good for you and the flavoring for these chips are so satisfying. Absolutely what you want in a snack. I like it because I can't stand bland boring foods, it leads to over eating in my opinion.
Newmens Owns Oatmeal chocolate cookies These snack gives you nutrition and fixes your sweet tooth. Just 5 cookies equals 140 calories.
Edys Fruit Bars (Popsicle Sticks)
One pop has the same amount of sugar as one piece of fruit, and where as one piece of fruit is better for you, if you really want an icy treat this is a perfect option. Plus it's great for kids too because it is make with real fruit. Get one for your kids, and one for you too.
Kozy Shack Chocolate Rice Pudding
I am not a rice pudding person but if you are this could be great for you. You have to watch portionson this one, but this food is gluten free and from what I hear it is delicious. Again, I am not a rice pudding person but if you have tried it, please let me know in the comments below.
Fruits and Veggies
It's important to get in your fruit and vegetables and here are a few options that can be good for you when it comes to on-the-go healthy snack ideas. Plus these are small and handy enough for your kids too.
Sun Sweet Prunes
I have yet to try these but I have seen the commercials and I am sure you have too.

This treat is great on the go and even better as it gives you almost a whole days worth of Vitamin C.
